UNESCO AI Competency Framework for Students

  • Purpose: Provides a structured guide for integrating AI learning objectives into official school curricula to prepare students as responsible users and co-creators of AI.
  • Core Dimensions: The framework is organized into 12 competencies across four key areas:
    • A human-centred mindset
    • Ethics of AI
    • AI techniques and applications
    • AI system design
  • Progression Levels: Competencies are categorized into three levels of mastery:
    • Understand
    • Apply
    • Create
  • Key Objectives:
    • Promote critical judgement of AI solutions.
    • Foster awareness of citizenship responsibilities in the AI era.
    • Build foundational AI knowledge for lifelong learning.
    • Encourage inclusive and sustainable AI design.
